In the last 2 years, the P.B.A. has given out $8,500 in total scholarship awards.

While the scholarships are meant to assist local students wishing to pursue a career in law enforcement or criminal justice, all are encouraged to apply. All 10 public high schools in the in the county have been provided with applications and eligibility requirements. THE DEPUTY FRANK J O'BRIEN MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

The Rensselaer County Deputy Sheriffs' PBA would like to announce the creation of the Deputy Frank J O'Brien Scholarship Memorial.  Deputy Frank J O'Brien was a well respected deputy of the Rensselaer County Sheriff's Office for more than 30 years.  During his career in law enforcement Frank was known to the Rensselaer County community as a trusted and friendly face. Frank's passing on May 19, 2007 left all those who knew him with heavy hearts.  By the creation of this scholarship we hope to memorialize Frank and carry on his tradition of helping the people of Rensselaer County.

The Deputy Frank J O'Brien scholarship will be awarded to selected graduating high school seniors throughout Rensselaer County.  While preference may be given to those interested in criminal justice, all are encouraged to apply.  Last year the PBA awarded (7) $500 scholarships to local seniors and we are promising to at least match that this year.   Below is a link to the Deputy Frank J O'Brien Memorial Scholarship application and a list of last years winners.  Copies of the application have also been sent to the guidance offices of every public high school in Rensselaer County.  Students may pick up an application there or may download it from this site.  All application need to be mailed to the address listed on the application to be considered. We cannot accept application online at this time.
